Spring Motorcycle Maintenance
Winter can be a difficult season for motorcycles, as the cold weather tends to be hard on engine fluids and equipment. Whether you rode your motorcycle all winter long or kept it safely tucked away in storage, your model will need some serious care and attention come springtime. To ensure your motorcycle is ready for the season, we recommend checking out our helpful maintenance guide below.
Charge Your Battery
If your model has been sitting dormant all winter long, your battery is likely to be dead come springtime. Before you try starting your model, remove the battery and attach it to a battery tender to help charge it back up again. Afterward, be sure to wipe your battery down and clean the poles with a slurry of baking soda and water before inserting it back into your motorcycle.
Care For Fluids
Cold temperatures tend to thicken important engine fluids, adding extra wear to various parts and equipment and lowering the overall performance of your model. To keep this from happening to your motorcycle, be sure to check that your model’s engine oil is clean and that there’s plenty of fluid in the reservoir. Next, check both of your motorcycle’s brake fluid reservoirs to ensure the fluid is clear, bright, and doesn’t contain any signs of condensation or debris. Finally, if your model has been sitting in storage, be sure to drain your fuel tank and refuel with fresh gas.
